Fiona Williams is a visual artist based in Naarm Melbourne. Williams image-making practice is painterly, intuitive, and responsive to her environment. Her process typically begins by working from a photograph or found image, through modalities of repetition that span painting, drawing, and video. She utilises too the configuration of or placement of images in a space, where their particular materiality, framing, and cast light come into play (a process of then becoming one image again) with the aim to draw attention to or expand-upon subtle aspects of pictorial space. Through her work Williams explores ideas of cohabitation and coexistence, difference and vitality.
Williams has a BFA (Hons) and MFA (research) from Monash University, and has undertaken residencies at The Banff Centre in Canada, RM in Aotearoa New Zealand, and Sointula Art Shed in Canada.
